Changing names ...

From: cpascott (seh-letterbox@comcast.net) | Date: 2005-06-28 17:51:23 UTC
What the consensus about changing your trail name? After a year of
letterboxing, I've been considering changing mine, although at the
moment I have no idea to what.

Basically, I don't like that the name I chose is four syllables, nor
do I like the inclusion of "CPA" in the front. Yes, I am a CPA, but
it's not really what I currently do. While I'm at it, I'd like to
pick something more anonymous anyway (eliminate my name from my trail
name).

So, CPAScott must retire ...

What do you think?

Hey, I think anything goes!! I know people that use several different
trail names depending on their mood, or who they are boxing with. For
example, many groups might box as a Team something, and the individuals also
have individual stamps they use when not in that particular group (Did
that make any sense??)

My best boxing friend and I are contemplating developing a stamp to use when
the two of us are out together and she is thinking about changing as the
inspiration for her stamp (her dog) recently passed.

Many people change stamps for various reasons.

If your trail name doesn't fit you anymore, find one that does. OR two or
three if ya want!

I'd hold an auction to let someone pick your new trail name. You
could rake in enough carving material, speedballs and ink pads to
cover yourself for life.

Of course, you could just have split personalities...

After it was discovered that he had a natural talent for finding boxes
without directions, Lascivious Lion's name changed his trail name to Box
Hound. While it does not have the alliterative quality that all the
other Alphabet Bandits names contain, it does suit him quite well, but
then again I thought Lascivious Lion apropos ;)

I think it is just fine to change names though it is probably more fun
to do so surreptitiously.

I think that when you think it's time to change your trail name, you should
do it! You could always put "fka CPAScott" after your new name for a while
until people get used to the new name.

Personally, I think Box Hound is a good choice. We were all amazed in
England by his absolutely uncanny at finding boxes via pure psychic ability.
While "Sheep Scarer", as he was temporarily dubbed on the Dartmoor trip, was
well meant, I think it would encourage wrong ideas and alarming visual
images for folks who were not there to see the truth...hee hee.

Say 'hi' to all the Bandits for me!

I am new to letterboxing. Picking a trail name and designing my
stamp
took much more thought than I had anticipated. Originally, I was
going to design a name around my initials, but then I decided that it
would be more meaningful to have a name that reflected something in
my
life that I truly enjoy. That way, some folks will understand the
alias while others will not! Good luck on finding a new name!

Look forward to seeing you all out there! Take care.
